Cured-in-Place Pipe Lining in Atlanta
Trenchless Sewer Repair Based on Camera Findings
Cured-in-place pipe lining repairs a damaged sewer pipe from the inside. A resin-saturated liner is inserted into the existing pipe and cured to form a new pipe within it, reducing the need to excavate the full pipe run.
At Atlanta Plumbing & Drain, we use video camera inspection to determine whether pipe relining is appropriate for the damage we find. Our locally owned and operated company has served Atlanta and surrounding communities since 2019, and our team includes state-licensed and insured plumbers. Depending on the pipe’s condition, location, and source of damage, we may recommend pipe relining, pipe bursting, or traditional trenching.

Signs Your Atlanta Sewer Line Needs an Inspection
Recurring sewer backups, several slow drains, persistent sewage odors, or wastewater at floor drains can indicate a problem beyond an individual fixture. We identify the source with a camera inspection rather than selecting a repair method from symptoms alone.
The camera reveals the sewer lateral’s interior condition and helps locate root intrusion, corrosion, or collapse. We also evaluate severe clogs, ground movement, saturated ground, and age-related wear affecting clay or cast iron pipe.
Our inspection considers several factors before we recommend a repair:
- Pipe material: Cast iron, clay, and Orangeburg pipe each require a condition-specific assessment.
- Structural condition: The pipe must retain enough integrity for liner installation.
- Extent of damage: Camera findings can show whether the defect is localized or affects a longer section.
- Access: We consider how the damaged section can be reached for lining or another repair method.
Comparing Pipe Relining, Bursting & Excavation
Pipe relining installs a new liner within an existing sewer pipe to seal cracks and leaks. It’s less invasive and quicker than traditional trenching because the full run generally doesn’t have to be uncovered. Eligibility still depends on what the inspection shows.
Pipe bursting breaks apart the existing pipe while drawing a replacement through the same path. Excavation exposes the damaged section from above so it can be repaired or replaced. Severe collapse or damage that prevents liner placement may require one of these approaches instead of cured-in-place pipe lining.

Our Cured-in-Place Pipe Lining Process
We begin with a video camera inspection to locate the damage and determine whether the existing pipe can accept a liner. We then explain the recommended method and provide a free estimate before sewer work begins.
The sewer repair journey includes:
- Inspecting the pipe interior and identifying the likely source of damage.
- Determining whether lining, bursting, or excavation fits the findings.
- Preparing the repair plan and free estimate.
- Placing a resin-saturated liner inside the damaged pipe and curing it within the existing line when lining is suitable.
- Testing the completed repair and cleaning the work area.
Atlanta Sewer Repair Permits & Public Infrastructure
Certain sewer repairs require permits when the work involves public infrastructure or a connection to the city sewer system. We navigate the applicable permitting process on the customer’s behalf during repair planning.
Trenchless work connecting to Atlanta public sewer infrastructure is subject to Department of Watershed Management service connection requirements. A project that enters or affects the public right-of-way may also require a separate encroachment permit from the Atlanta Department of Public Works. The requirements depend on where the work occurs and how the private sewer lateral connects with public infrastructure.
Atlanta’s Sewer System Rehabilitation Program also uses trenchless technologies, including cured-in-place pipe lining and pipe bursting, to address aging sewer infrastructure.
